Ayat is a visiting PhD student at the Gurney Lab since the beginning of 2022 and an MD and assistant lecturer at Cairo University Hospitals. Her research interests have recently focused on bacteriophages and their potential applications in phage therapy. Her current project is centered around characterizing the ecological and evolutionary effects of phages on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) virulence and antibiotic resistance. Through her work, she aims to identify key PA genes crucial for phage infection using Tn-sequencing. Ayat has passion for the physiology and interactions of bacteriophages and bacteria
